Fellowship programme by the Gerda Henkel Foundation and European Commission

M4HUMAN – Application process for the fellowship programme by the Gerda Henkel Foundation and European Commission enters final stage

Researchers in the fields of historical humanities and Islamic studies have until June 30 to apply for funding from the Gerda Henkel Foundation’s “M4HUMAN” programme (“Mobility for experienced researchers in historical humanities including Islamic studies”). The programme is open to experienced and senior researchers worldwide who are planning a two-year research stay primarily abroad and is a joint initiative by the Gerda Henkel Foundation and the European Commission. The partners are offering up to 100 research grants – the “Marie Curie Fellowships”.

Decision in October


An International Advisory Committee will examine the applications and submit a recommendation to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. In addition to the members of the Gerda Henkel Foundation Academic Advisory Committee – Prof. Martin Zimmermann (Munich, Chair), Prof. Andreas Beyer (Paris), Prof. Willibald Steinmetz (Bielefeld) and Prof. Barbara Stollberg-Rilinger (Münster) – the committee also consists of seven further experts: Prof. Rudolf Schlögl (Konstanz, Chair), Prof. Claudia Antonetti (Venice), Prof. Philippe Bordes (Lyon), Prof. Leonid Iosifovich Borodkin (Moscow), Prof. Jane Caplan (Oxford), Prof. Anja Pistor-Hatam (Kiel), Prof. Bo Stråth (Helsinki) and Prof. Wyger V. E. Velema (Amsterdam). The Foundation’s Board of Trustees will make the final decision in October. The Board consists of Julia Schulz-Dornburg (Barcelona, Chair), Prof. Meinhard Miegel (Deputy Chair, Bonn), Prof. Hans-Joachim Gehrke (Freiburg), Prof. Ulrich Lehner (Düsseldorf), Dr. Michael Muth (Munich) and Dr. Hans-Dietrich Winkhaus (honorary member, Düsseldorf).
